PREAMBLE:
Whereas we, a body of believers in Jesus
Christ, organized for the purpose of spreading the Gospel of our Lord and the
teachings and practices of His Church, deem it advisable that we have definite
rules of government and conduct, so that "all things may be done decently
and in order" (I Cor. 14:40). Therefore, be
it resolved, that upon their adoption by a majority vote of the church; we be
governed by the following constitution and by-laws.
SECTION I - NAME
The name of this Church shall be The Maywood
Community Church, Inc.
SECTION II - STATEMENT OF FAITH
The Holy Bible is the inspired Word of God
and is therefore out only authority in matters of faith and conscience. The following are based on Maywood's original
"Tenets of Belief,"
·
We
believe in the Deity of our Lord Jesus Christ.
·
We
believe in His virgin birth and conception by the Holy Spirit.
·
We
believe that all mankind is under the curse and condemnation of sin and, without
salvation, is consequently lost.
·
We
believe that salvation is by grace alone, through faith in Jesus Christ.
·
He
loosed us from our sins by His own blood, giving His life a ransom and bearing
our sins in His own body on the cross.
·
We
believe that Satan is a personality and the one who blinds the eyes of the unsaved.
·
We
believe in our Lord's physical resurrection from the dead and the second visible
and imminent coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
·
We
believe in the Great Commission which our Lord gave to us for the evangelization
of the world, and that this ministry of proclaiming the Gospel of the grace of
God is the primary mission of every Christian.
SECTION III -
CHURCH COVENANT
Having been led, as we believe by the Spirit
of God, to perceive the Lord Jesus Christ as our Savior, and on the profession
of our faith, having been baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son,
and of the Holy Spirit, we do now, in the presence of God and this assembly,
most solemnly and joyfully enter into covenant with one another, as one body in
Christ.
We engage therefore, by the aid of the Holy
Spirit to walk together in Christian love; to strive for the advancement of
this church in knowledge, holiness and comfort; to promote its prosperity and
spirituality; to sustain its worship, ordinances, discipline and doctrines; to
contribute cheerfully
and
regularly to the support of the ministry, the expenses of the Church, the relief
of the poor, and the spread of the gospel through all nations.
We also engage to maintain family and
private devotions, to religiously educate our children; to seek the salvation
of others; to walk uprightly in the world; and be just in our dealings,
faithful in our commitments, and exemplary in our behavior; to be zealous in
our efforts to advance the
kingdom
of our Savior.
We further engage to watch over one another
in brotherly love; to remember each other in prayer; to aid each other in
sickness and distress; to cultivate Christian sympathy in feeling and courtesy
in speech; to be slow to take offense, but always ready for reconciliation, and mindful of the
rules of our Savior to secure it without delay.
We moreover engage that when we remove from
this place we will, as soon as possible, unite with another church, where we
can carry out the Spirit of this Covenant and the principles of God's Word.
SECTION IV - RELATIONSHIP
This church is an inter-denominational
church and, as such, will seek to have a relationship with all Christian
Churches.
SECTION V - PURPOSE
The purpose of Maywood Community Church is
to glorify God. We believe the elements to achieve that purpose include:
1.
Worship
- We seek to be a church where everyone can come and personally respond in
worship to God as they see Him primarily through His Word. Psalm 29:2.
2.
Instruction
- Christ said, "to go and make disciples, teaching them to observe all
things I have commanded you." Matthew 28:19,20. Our goal is to teach the Word of God to all
ages that they might "be conformed to the image of God's Son." II Timothy 2:15, Romans 8:29.
3.
Service
- We seek to help each believer see how they can use their gifts and talents
for the Lord. We seek to "equip the
saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of
Christ." Ephesians 4:12.
4.
Evangelism
- We seek to reach out to all unbelievers with the Gospel of Jesus Christ
bringing them to a personal relationship with God as they believe and receive
Jesus into their lives. Mark 16:
15, Ephesians 3:14-21.
5.
Missions
- Our mission outreach includes meeting the needs of our church family and
community as well as sponsoring missionaries to take the Gospel to the world. Our responsibility includes corporate and individual prayer, financial and material
support, and active personal involvement by our members.
6.
Fellowship
- We are exhorted to encourage and love one another and "not forsaking the
assembling of ourselves together."
Hebrews 10:24,25. "That which
we have seen and heard we declare to you, that you also may have fellowship
with us." I John 1:3.
SECTION VI - ORDINANCES
BAPTISM
All believers should follow our Lord's
example in Baptism- Matthew 3:13-17. We
believe that Baptism is a confession of our faith in Jesus Christ, symbolizing
our death, burial, and resurrection to eternal life. Romans 6:3,4.
We believe this is best pictured by
immersion. However, recognizing that Baptism
is a symbolic act and because we are an inter-denominational church, the mode
of Baptism may be discussed with the Pastor.
COMMUNION
The Scriptural basis for the observance of
the Lord's Supper is found in I Corinthians 11. All believers in Christ are
invited to partake. Communion shall be observed at least once a quarter and
during other services as may be arranged by the Pastor.
